What role do data centers play in our communities, and what questions should we be asking about them?
Join us for a community panel at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26 in Abilene Heritage Square exploring what data centers are and aren't, how they impact local economies and infrastructure, and what policy solutions are being considered. The discussion will cover topics on grid reliability, water usage, community investment, and more. It will also include a Q&A session with the audience.Â
Â
When major investments are being considered, communities deserve to be part of the conversation from the start, understanding what it means for them and how they can shape it. A good investment is always made better with a strong community partner, and that partnership begins with an informed, open dialogue.Â
Â
The event, hosted by the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, is part of a series underwritten by Google. Speakers include George P. Bush, former land commissioner of Texas, Jose Beceiro, strategic negotiator of data center site development at Google, and Phil Crowley, Taylor County Judge.
Moderating the conversation is Texas Tribune editor-in-chief Matthew Watkins.Â
This event is in-person only and will not be live streamed. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and networking, and the hourlong program begins at Noon.
Directions will be announced closer to the event.
For Partner Programs, The Texas Tribune does not participate in the development of event content, the direction of discussion, or the selection of panelists.
